xTuple, the leader in open source enterprise resource planning software, today announced the release of xTuple ERP 3.2, the eleventh major release in eight years, of the world’s most advanced open source ERP system. The release caps a breakthrough year for the company; despite the global economic slowdown, xTuple saw growth across the board, more than doubling its 2007 results in new and retained customers, overall sales, and profitability.

Version 3.2 includes over 300 enhancements in just three months, including major usability improvements to the fully-integrated CRM module (graphical calendar of To-Do items, email and alarm notifications of system events), time-saving consolidated workbenches in the Accounting modules, and much-anticipated enhancements to Manufacturing, including Disassembly Work Orders, Manufacturers’ Part Numbers, and Reference Designators on Bills of Materials. These and many other new features were developed to exact customer specifications, and publicly vetted in xTuple’s online community development discussions.

In close co-operation with the open source community, xTuple also dramatically enhanced the integrated OpenRPT report writer – adding more sophisticated business intelligence and analytical tools, as well as a greatly improved user interface.

And finally, building on the Screen Builder and Javascript support introduced in version 3.0, and the support for Packages of custom screens, scripts, and reports in version 3.1, xTuple is pleased to announce that xTuple ERP now includes a fully-integrated copy of the Qt Designer graphical developer tool. Designer is the form and screen-building application included with the Qt suite of cross-platform C++ programmer tools from Qt Software, a unit of Nokia Corporation.

The embedded Designer tool allows power users of xTuple ERP to create new screens, as well as edit existing screens within xTuple, without the added complexity of building a full Qt development environment. Users can drag and drop forms, buttons, and “widgets” of pre-built xTuple ERP functionality without any need for C++ programming. And new or modified screens, scripts, and modules can be saved and loaded directly from the xTuple database, with no need to compile new software binaries. They can also be saved as externally-loadable Packages, and made available for free or paid download on xTuple’s forthcoming xTuple xChange marketplace of add-on software, coming later this month.

“We continue to execute on our twofold strategy of enhancing our core product, while providing ever-more-powerful tools for the open source community to grow with us,” said xTuple CEO Ned Lilly. “With PostBooks and OpenRPT as our core free offerings, and the PostgreSQL database and Qt as key enabling technologies, we reaffirm our commitment to growing the preeminent global community of open source ERP professionals.”

The PostBooks Edition of xTuple ERP is available free of charge under the open source Common Public Attribution License (CPAL), and is consistently ranked among the top ten projects on the SourceForge open source download portal, where it has been downloaded over 200,000 times by IT and ERP professionals around the world. The Standard and Manufacturing Editions are available under xTuple's innovative hybrid license, whereby customers and partners have full access to the application source code, and any enhancements made to the product flow back to xTuple for review, quality testing, and possible incorporation into the baseline product.

Quality is an important focus at xTuple and prior to final release a rigorous internal testing program ensures the software is ready for production use. The testing program includes both human execution of a comprehensive battery of hundreds of Use Case scenarios and automated test scripts, both of which ensure the application achieves consistent desired results. Use cases, test scripts, and update routines are all made publicly available to community members, and the entire process is entirely transparent at xTuple websites.

All xTuple ERP products run equally well on Mac, Windows, and Linux computers, and are fully internationalized with multi-currency, support for multiple tax structures, and multilingual translation packs maintained by the global open-source community. All this and more, including public discussion forums, a documentation wiki, blogs, and the community issue/bug tracker, can be found at www.xtuple.org.
